Night Light is a 2D pixel art horror developed as part of the #30DayDev jam in January 2017. The #30DayDev jam is a game jam where the only rule is that the resulting game must be created in only 30 days. Gameplay features a unique ‘phasing’ mechanic allowing the player to navigate through a labyrinth of dead-ends by moving between a top and bottom map.

Responsibilities

  • Wrote all gameplay code in 30 days. Includes ‘phasing’ mechanic (explained above), code-based story elements (interactive objects, reusable narrative triggers), and core game elements (player movement, game states).
  • Created all pixel art and animations. All pixel art was drawn in Photoshop.
  • Recorded audio sound effects. Game sound effects and ambient noises were created by stomping on metal, using keyboard patch sounds, scraping objects together; and manipulating the recordings in Audacity.
