KnocK Log #4: The Sounds of Art

Posted on May 24, 2017 in Game Development

KnocK development is going surprisingly well and a lot of little elements have been added to the basic house that has been developed over the last few devlogs. First off, some more basic texturing has been done in a few rooms and a quick application of textures has happened to the majority of the interior. Here are a few samples:

A few new models have been added here and there, a lot of work needs to be done on props to fill out the level and this is just a few rough starts on that.

One new update is the good ol’ horror game trope in the flesh, notes! Notes are going to be small text blurbs that provide background into the story of the game. For the most part, I’d like to design these all as news clippings as I find it a little annoying in horror games where the notes are written by someone and scattered around with no real reason for why they’ve been scattered (other than for the sake of the game). The image and text for this is all just placeholder for now, the solution I developed for it is reusable so it’s quick and easy to add notes. Also, in the upper right behind the faded background you can see ‘Investigate Noise’ which is an objective that you can press a button to view at any time.

Finally, I can’t really show this part, but simple audio is working including the sounds of footsteps. You would be amazing how for basic sounds can go! Other things like switches and doors have sounds that may or may not be replaced in the future.

I’ll leave you with the prospective tagline for KnocK:

Welcome Home…
